draft 1
Dear , I am writing to you with regard to a dangerous organisation which resides within our borders. They are known as “The Church of Scientology”. It is my hope that by informing you of their activities that action may be taken against them at government level.

There are three reasons why this organisation should be prevented from operating:

1) The Church of Scientology is scam designed to extract the maximum amount of money out of its victims.

Parishioners can pay extraordinary sums of money in order to attend courses and to undergo a form ‘spiritual counselling’ known as ‘auditing’. The cost of doing these courses and auditing can be so great that many parishioners are forced to work for pittance within the organisation in the hope they will receive auditing and courses. To attain the highest levels in Scientology, known as the ‘Operating Thetan’ or OT levels, can cost upwards of hundreds of thousands of euro.

2) The Church of Scientology is a risk to public mental health.

Based on the teachings of its founder, L Ron Hubbard, the Scientology organisation is opposed to any and all forms of psychiatric medicine. These teachings mean that Scientology members are prohibited from seeking any form of psychiatric assistance no matter how severe their condition. The Scientology organisation spread these teachings through a front group called the CCHR (Citizens Commission on Human Rights). Through this group the Scientology organisation spread extremely misleading propaganda designed to turn members of the public against the mental health profession.
Of particular interest is the CCHR-produced documentary, “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death”, which goes so far in its propaganda as to allege that psychiatry was the cause of the holocaust. The CCHR “Industry of Death” exhibit was on display in Cork City Hall last June.
Over the past year the HSE has funded commercials encouraging awareness regarding the issue of mental health. Ignoring a group like the Scientology organisation only serves to undo much of the good work the HSE campaign intended to achieve.

3) The Church of Scientology is a deceptive and malevolent organisation that harms society.

Some of the malevolent practices that the Scientology organisation has codified include:

Disconnection [1] – A policy where Scientology members are forced to cease communication with family and friends whom the Scientology organisation considers “Potential Trouble Sources” or “Suppressive Persons”. Scientology member Tony Phelan been disconnected from his family since 1995. The Phelans are simply one of many families that have been adversely affected by Scientology’s policy of disconnection.

Use of front groups [2] – The internal document linked to below proves the deceptive nature of the Scientology organisation front group. From the CCHR to Narconon (a medically unsafe and ineffectual drug treatment programme exposed here [3] attempting to infiltrate Irish schools), the intention is solely to spread Scientology teachings and to gain more recruits.

Deceptive recruiting techniques [4] – the Scientology organisation’s recruitment method of choice is the free personality test (also known as a stress test or Oxford Capacity Analysis test). The intention of this test is to do the following (quoted from page 10 of the document):
“Before you can save someone from ruin, you must find out what their own personal ruin is. This is basically-What is ruining them? What is messing them up? It must be a condition that is real to the individual as an unwanted condition, or one that can be made real to him.”
This ‘ruin’ is then used against the potential recruit as the tester attempts to coerce them into doing Scientology. No matter what answers you give this test will always generate extremely negative results. The test can be quite brutal as evidenced by the suicide of Kaja Ballo [5], daughter of a Norwegian MP, after her test results claimed she was “depressed, irresponsible, hyper-critical and lacking in harmony”.

I hope that this email will serve to inform you of their presence and activities, and I hope that you are able to act upon this information to take a step in protecting the Irish public.

Draft 2:
I am writing to you in regard to the operations of the church of Scientology within the boundaries of our country and my growing concern about the intent of this corporation. The church have been operating from Middle Abbey St for the last 20 years with attempts to get a foothold in our schools, drug rehabs, communities and prisons.
Under the guise of various self help or humanitarian groups, the initial introduction refrains from mentioning its origins in Scientology; a church began by science fiction writer LRH in 1954.

I would like to highlight 3 major practices that I feel are dangerous by the church of Scientology.
My sources are available at the end of the page.

1) Using auditing on children as young as (--age?).

During auditing overt hypnotherapy is used by the church without knowledge of the ----.
Auditing uses a device called the Hubbard E-Meter. This device measures changes in the electrical resistance of the -------- by passing approximately 0.5 volts through a pair of tin-plated tubes much like empty soup cans, attached to the meter by wires accompanied by repeated phrases. This can be fundamentally dangerous to the mental state of a child.

Though in hypnosis there is no E-meter as there is in Scientology, at almost every stage there is a parallel between Scientology auditing extract from the Anderson Report, page 115, chapter 18, Report of the Board of Enquiry into Scientology by Kevin Victor Anderson, Q.C. Published by the State of Victoria, Australia

2) Enforced heavy manual labour for children in UK orgs.

Scientology views children as adults in small bodies and children are set unhealthy working hours with few breaks and barely liveable conditions. One example follows.
Vivien Krogmann Lutz, a 23 year old German girl, sued her scientologist parents for, amongst other things, sending her to Saint Hill Scientology org. Her parents, accompanied by Scientology lawyers, agreed to pay Vivien 35,000 Euros in damages. Vivien was not allowed to go to the school, Instead the girl had to study the books of Scientology. The day at St. Hill begins for all students at seven in the morning and ends at midnight. Seven days a week, including Sundays.

3) Children denied vital medication and psychiatric treatment’
The church of Scientology runs an anti-psyche group called Citizens Commission on Human Rights in the hope of eliminating psychiatry and replacing it with Dianetics Tech invented by Hubbard. This includes all forms of treatment for illness. Many lawsuits have been taken against the church and its followers, following their unprofessional stance at encouraging their members to abstain from recommended health treatments from their doctors. Scientologists vehemently and publicly oppose the pharmacological treatment of mental illness. Unfortunately, Scientology's own brand of therapy, called "auditing", is worthless.
A sad example, On March 13, 2003, Jeremy Perkins, a 28 year old untreated schizophrenic, stabbed his mother, Elli, to death. Jeremy is currently being held at Rochester Psychiatric Center, having been found not responsible for Elli's murder by reason of mental disease or defect.
The Perkins family, all members of the Church of Scientology, withheld Jeremy's medication.

Dear TD ,

I am very concerned about a dangerous company operating in dublin , known as the church of Scientology , hence my writing to you . Its founder L.Ron.Hubbard disguises it as a church for tax evasion purposes only. The practices they recommend are pretty dangerous.

The "church" is at 62 Middle Abbey St ,Dublin 1 and is actually a bookstore and not a church.

While Scientology promotional materials rarely mention the dangers of practicing Scientology, some Scientology publications - including their required release form - divulge the truth: that Scientology can be dangerous. Clearly, the vast majority of people who have tried Scientology have not died from it. However, a disturbing number of Scientologists have died under suspicious circumstances, and a few former members have reported plots to kill perceived enemies of the organization.

1 )One of my major concerns is The Scientology Release Form - "The Lisa Clause"

Scientology requires all participants to sign a release form in which they promise never to sue Scientology and specifically permits Scientology staff to hold them in isolation, with no contact with family or friends, for as long as the staffer determines is necessary. The release is sometimes called "the Lisa clause" because Scientology began requiring it in the aftermath of Lisa McPherson's death in Scientology's custody.

2)Secondly , The dangers of the Purification Rundown

The Purification Rundown is an introductory Scientology service in which participants supposedly rid themselves of the lingering effects of drugs they've taken, including both medical and recreational drugs. The Purification Rundown involves toxic megadoses of niacin. It also requires participants to spend hours at a time in a sauna, which can also be dangerous. It is not uncommon for children to do the Purification Rundown (I have spoken with a Scientologist who told me she did it when she was three years old), and the effects could be especially hard on their young bodies.

3)Thirdly ,The Dangers of Scientology Processing /Auditing

Scientology processing typically means participation in a Scientology auditing session, although there are a few other activities that may be considered processing.
Processing can alter your perceptions and beliefs in ways that aren't immediately obvious to you on a concious level. There is concern that some Scientology processes invoke a hypnotic state, in which the participant may become highly suggestible. Upper-level processing, which involves telepathically auditing the spirits of aliens stuck to your body, can cause severe mental disorientation for some participants.

While most Scientology teachings do not promote suicide), at least one course does seem to suggest suicide. In the Route to Infinity course, which consists of several taped lectures, Hubbard discusses something called Technique 88. In one lecture, he says:

"... Technique 88 takes the body away"

In another lecture in the same course, he says:

"And by the way, people who do run 88 have to furnish their own coffins! We won't furnish those here. You also have to leave a suicide note for the police."

While hundreds of Scientologists have done this course and nearly all of them are still alive, the statement still troubles me.

After visiting the site http://www.whyaretheydead.net/ and investigating some of the bizarre anti-medical treatments they encourge , and the recent death of john Travoltas son Jett due to this attitude , I now hope to alert our government to keep a close eye on them if possible have them removed or monitered at least.
Yours sincerely
